Three seed-syllables, not words with a dictionary meaning: they are held to carry the whole of the death-conquering mantra in the shortest form.
Used for japa where the full Mahāmṛtyuñjaya verse is too long to repeat 108 times, and often joined to it as oṃ hauṃ jūṃ saḥ.
Seed-mantras belong to the mantra tradition, where many teachers hold that they should be received from a guru. We give it here as it is commonly chanted; if you have a teacher, follow your teacher.
