May we know that Supreme Person; on the Great God we meditate. May Rudra guide us towards it.

भाष्य Explanation — our commentary, not scripture

A gāyatrī has three parts: “may we know”, “we meditate”, “may he guide us”. This one is addressed to Śiva as Tatpuruṣa, one of his five faces, and is among the most widely used mantras for Śiva japa.

On the Japa page it can be counted on the mālā, at about seven seconds a round.
